If you’re considering to do a bathroom renovation and plan to put a shower door or any kind of glass enclosure, here are some of the most common things that you have to consider in order to find the best kind of door or glass enclosure for your bathroom:
FULL DOOR or PANEL SHIELD
If you have a tub/shower unit, you can either go with a full door (usually sliding) or a shield which is basically just glass panel/s that will prevent splashes. These shields are also available for regular walk-in showers but most still prefer a full door to completely eliminate any splashing.
TUB OR SHOWER APPLICATION:
First you have to decide if you are putting a tub/shower unit in your bathroom or just a walk-in shower. Obviously the shower doors and glass enclosures made for tubs are shorter than a regular walk-in or stand alone.
SLIDING or PIVOTING
Space will be a big determining factor here. If your bathroom space is large enough then this will not be an issue and will all depend on your own personal preference. Sliding door is more recommended for smaller bathroom space simply because you won’t have to worry about it hitting the vanity or the toilet when you open the door just like the pivoting type.
ALCOVE or CORNER INSTALLATION
You also have to know the configuration and exact measurement of the shower door or glass enclosure that you are getting. If you have 3 walls and the door is just going at the front of the shower, then you will need one made for alcove installation. You have to determine the exact measurement between the finished walls as shower doors usually have just about an inch or less of allowed adjustment.
If you need 2 sides of glass, then you need one for a corner installation. For this type of shower door/ glass enclosure, you need to measure the base and length and width of the shower base. You will also have to determine which side you need the return panel to be installed unless the manufacturer offers reversible type.
You can basically get shower doors/ glass enclosures from 5mm all the way up to 12mm and of course, price will adjust accordingly. Good quality shower doors usually use at least 8mm or even 10mm so they’re thicker, sturdier and more durable than the 5mm and 6mm ones commonly available now.
PROTECTIVE COATING/ TREATMENT
One of the most common problems people encounter with their glass shower door is keeping it nice and clean. Most of the time, water stains, particularly if you have hard water at home, stick to the glass and is very hard to remove and restore to it's original state and beauty. Zitta shower doors come standard with ZittaClean which is a treatment that protects the glass from hard water build up and stains and will only require minimal maintenance.
HIGH QUALITY HARDWARE
From the door handles to hinges to rollers, look for a shower door/ glass enclosure that comes with high quality hardware as these are the things that usually break and cause challenges. Zitta shower doors that we carry come with a Lifetime Warranty on hinges and rollers so that will definitely add some peace of mind knowing that you’re covered in case something unexpected happens in the future.
OPTIONS and UPGRADES
It’s always nice to have different options to personalize or customize your shower door and not have one that looks just like everyone else’s. If you have square faucets and shower system, it will be nice if you can get a shower door with square handle, hinges, or rollers. Sometimes you can also get them with different accent finishes like black or even wood. If you prefer a little privacy, you can get something with textured/frosted middle or the mirror-finish. You can also get light and sound features for the best showering experience.
